First of all I should say that I think it should be illegal for a bakery to open up across the street from our office, especially one this good! However, I guess I’ll let it slide since Annie was sweet enough (pun intended) to let me stop by for an interview.
Annie Saltsman, the owner of 3 Kids and a Cake, met with me last week to share more about her business and all the fun treats they bring to Bartlesville. She told me it all started three years ago when she decided she wanted to make her daughter’s birthday cake. She has always been a creative and loved learning new things so she dove in head first.
The more she began to decorate and experiment the more she began getting custom order requests. She originally started making cakes for others as a form of practice to learn new techniques. From there things quickly grew!
About a year ago her family moved to Bartlesville from Owasso! Once here in town a friend and her began discussing the option of opening a bakery store front. Before long the ball was rolling! She began looking for spaces in August, signed a lease in September and opened in November. Talk about movers and shakers!
Annie told me that they planned to open when they did because they really wanted to be ready when our Christmas in the Ville festival kicked off right across the street. Having worked many hours at the festival myself, I’ll tell you I was so happy to be able to run over there and get a sugar fix when I needed a pick me up!
3 Kids and a Cake has quickly grown and now has six employees. Almost all of them are working moms with fourteen kids between the six of them! She told me that they have a really fun environment that often includes singing and dancing. “We really take to heart what we do,” Annie beamed.
Recently they began offering cookie decorating classes which they plan to continue doing on a weekly basis (schedule dependent). The last several classes have filled up fast so be sure to keep an eye on their Facebook page for announcements of upcoming classes!
Annie told me that their most popular trend has been their unicorn cookies. If you haven’t seen them, these things are so stinking cute! They change up their colors and decor based on the season, but they are always a huge hit!
They have premade grab and go items in the case that change daily. Of course you can always place a custom order as well, but be sure to give them a week or two notice as their schedule fills up fast!
Annie told me that she had a lot of help when first getting involved in the community after moving here and has had continued local support. We love hearing that!
Currently 3 Kids and a Cake are open Tuesdays-Fridays 10:00am-2:00pm and Saturdays 8:00am-12:00pm, but they are considering extending their hours to offer one evening a week. You can find them on Facebook here https://www.facebook.com/3kidsandacake. You can also contact them by phone at (918) 886-3893 or of course dropping by their store front located at 123 West 2nd Street in downtown Bartlesville.
Thank you so much to 3 Kids and a Cake for truly making Bartlesville a place we all want to live, work and play!
